Patterns and Portraits

The past few days the students have been creating patterns using a variety of materials. We will begin to look at patterns in nature (animals, plants, seasons) next week. Ask your child if they can build a pattern with objects and to look for items in your house that have patterns (eg. a rug or clothing).
The students have been practicing observation and drawing skills to create self portraits. We watched an artist draw a face to figure out shapes and positions of eyes, ears and noses then looked at their own faces to draw and paint a self portrait. The students were given feedback about their drawings and showed improvement with each sketch!

Reminders: Student Learning Conferences are next Thursday 3:30-7 and Friday 8-12. This means early dismissal Thursday (12:30) and no school for students on Friday. Today we sent home a short questionnaire to gather some more information about your child before we meet at conferences. Please fill out and return it before Thursday. Thanks!
